Tips on How to Look Refreshed During the Winter Season

The cold, arid and windy conditions that relentlessly accompany the winter months can leave one’s hair, skin and overall spirit feeling subjugated and uninspired. Locks become desiccated, skin is dehydrated, and the blithe and blissful dog days of summer, that bring with them the promise of a golden tan, are nowhere in sight. However, do not despair. There are steps to be taken and remedies at hand that are certain to bring a few early rays of sunshine to any bleak and frosty existence.

Winter Hair Care

An intense moisturizing leave-in conditioner works wonders for brittle and dull tresses. The key is to leave the product in for as long as possible. This gives the conditioner a chance to seep into the hair shaft and get to the “root” of the problem. For an even deeper treatment, wrap a warm towel around hair after applying the leave-in conditioner and leave on for twenty minutes. Women with thin or oily hair should be certain to rinse their hair thoroughly to prevent any leftover residue from weighing hair down. However, women with thick or dry hair may benefit by not entirely rinsing the conditioner from their hair.

Cure for Scaly Skin

An obvious way to combat dry skin is to moisturize at least once a day and always directly following a bath or shower. If regular lotion is not enough, balms are an excellent alternative and provide extra relief. Also, regular exercise is beneficial, as it improves circulation and encourages blood flow, providing nourishment to the skin. Lastly, while drinking two litres of water is helpful all year-round, it is particularly useful during the winter because it helps to keep one hydrated.

Save a Dull Complexion

Tired, lackluster or pale skin tones do not have to be the norm this season. For a fresh face, start with a moisturizing facial mask and follow with a rich moisturizer. The texture should be creamy, without being oily or too heavy. Tinted moisturizers are also a great way to achieve a healthy glow without hitting the tanning bed. Next, erase dark circles and the look of fatigue with an under eye brightener. As opposed to a regular concealer, a brightener will refresh one’s face and waken tired eyes. And for a hint of colour, a touch of blush to the apples of the cheeks will create a warm and bright complexion.

Treat the Feet

Pedicures are not only for beach-bound feet – they should be enjoyed year-round. During colder months, soles may become cracked and rough. If a professional pedicure is too timely or costly, an at-home treatment is also an option. Begin by soaking feet in warm water. Next, use a foot scrub and emery board to file away dead skin and smooth the rough edges of the foot. Next, apply a foot lotion and finish off by painting toes with a vibrant nail polish, like cherry red.
